Intensive English Program

The USEF (United States education Foundation) Intensive English Program (IEP) is one of the oldest and most respected intensive English programs in California education system. Thousands of students from around the world have studied in our various programs. These 10-week, 20-week and 30-week programs are offered year-round—in fall, winter, spring and summer quarters—and includes a total of 220 hours to 660 hours of instruction at eight different levels of proficiency. It is ideal for those wanting to learn English for academic, professional or social purposes.

The IEP Mission

The Intensive English Program in California Community College Education Center for International Education provides high-quality English instruction to international students seeking to improve their linguistic proficiency and attain their academic, professional, social and/or personal goals. This program offers a positive and enriching intercultural experience that builds students’ knowledge, awareness and critical thinking skills, enabling them to succeed and become leaders in global, English-speaking environments.

The IEP Program

  • Eight levels—from beginning to advanced
  • Level determined by placement exam
  • 21 – 22 hours of instruction per week, including two hours of Conversational English, one – two hours of self-paced work in the Resource Center (RC)
  • Small classes (approximately 12-18 students)
  • Free paper-based TOEFL test at the end of each quarter
  • Highly qualified and experienced instructors
  • Daily recreational, cultural and social activities with Solano Community College student leaders
  • Midterm, paper-based TOEFL test and end-of-the-quarter TOEIC test (with fee)
  • Optional weekend trips may include Yosemite National Park, Napa Valley, San Francisco and Los Angeles
